The Barn
The Black Barn at Roundwood originally dates from the 1800s and has seen many uses over the years.
Since the 1980s, the barn has hosted many family parties and events for the present owners, and having been fully renovated in 2024 to modern standards, we are excited to be starting the next chapter of the Black Barn’s history as a versatile events space.
History in every beam
The Black Barn at Roundwood was primarily used for grain storage; you can see many original features preserved today. Traditional post and beam construction methods are evident through the beautifully preserved and exposed beams throughout. The floor shows where sections would have been removed temporarily during harvest to allow carts into the barn to deposit the grain. The sloped wooden sides are also an original feature and would have been required to support the weight of the grain sacks, which weighed up to 16 stone each.

A family farm
Roundwood farm itself has been in existence since the 1700s, and has been in its current ownership since the 1980s. It is an arable farm, producing the highest quality wheat and barley, meaning the Black Barn is located in the heart of an idyllic rural landscape that changes with the seasons.
